If you love cheese, chances are you enjoy wine too. So who better to introduce you to the wonderful world of wine than 4th generation winemaker Bruce Tyrrell?

Tyrrell’s Wines make some of Australia’s most awarded wines including the iconic Vat 1 Semillon, which is widely regarded as one of the great wines of the world. The Tyrrell’s winemaking philosophy combines respect for winemaking traditions of the past, while embracing the best of modern technology.

How to Taste Cheese with Sonia Cousins

We all know how to eat cheese, but how do you taste it? Sonia Cousins has been a professional cheese eater for more than 12 years, and judges cheese in Australia and overseas.

Learn how all five senses are used to really taste cheese, and delve under the rind of some benchmark Australian wedges and wheels. At the end of the workshop you’ll be able to spot the difference between a good cheese and a great cheese.

There will also be a Q and A session, so start thinking of your curly cheese questions now!

This 1-hour workshop will include a guided tasting of Aussie cheeses made from different milk types – bovine, caprine, ovine and bubaline (yes, bubaline!). Limited places are available on a first come, first seated basis. And best of all, it’s FREE!

We’re all familiar with the gold and silver medals that appear on award-winning cheeses, but what do they really mean? Sonia Cousins has been a cheese judge since 2008, and judges at some of the major cheese shows in Australia. She has also judged at several competitions overseas.

In this workshop, Sonia will share what it takes to be a cheese judge, and show you how cheeses are judged in Australian competitions. There will also be a general cheese Q and A session at the end.

Wine and Cheese Matching Experience with Two Fat Blokes

Saturday 17 – Sunday 18 June
10am – 3:30pm

Not sure of the best wine to serve with your favourite fromage? Want to know if a Shiraz or a Chardonnay is the perfect match for that oozing triple cream brie? This workshop is for you!

The popular Two Fat Blokes cheese and wine matching experience will be popping up at the Cheese Lovers Festival across the entire festival weekend. Sit around a table and have some fun tasting nine different cheeses matched with nine different wines, in a relaxed, small-group setting. Your knowledgeable and entertaining host will guide you through a selection of local, Australian and international cheeses, perfectly paired with beautiful wines from De Iuliis.

This 1-hour workshop is available to 20 guests at a time, to guarantee a relaxed and intimate experience. Four sessions are scheduled for both days of the festival. Tickets cost $25 (+ b.f.) and must be purchased in advance.
